形容詞的比較級

比較兩個人或兩件事時，常會卡在要用 more…than 還是形容詞 + -er + than，以及拼字怎麼變化。本篇整理形容詞比較級的規則（含不規則變化）、less…than、than me/him 的用法，並補充 much / a bit + 比較級的加強語氣。

形容詞比較級的基本用法

我們用 “more + 形容詞 + than” 或 “形容詞 + -er + than” 來比較事情或人。

My sister is more polite than your sister. 我姐姐比你姐姐更有禮貌。
My new car toy is faster than your toy. 我的新汽車玩具比你的玩具快。

比較級的拼字規則

在這個圖表中你可以看到什麼時候要用 more…than 或 -er than 和 拼法的改變。

單音節 + er	old -> older cheap -> cheaper high -> higher
單音節字尾是 子音+短母音+子音， 重複字尾加 er。	hot -> hotter big -> bigger thin -> thinner
單音節字尾是 e，直接加 r。	nice -> nicer
雙音節字尾是 y，去 y 加 ier。	healthy -> healthier happy -> happier noisy -> noisier
雙音節或多音節，前面加 more。	famous -> more famous generous -> more generous
不規則形容詞	good -> better bad -> worse far -> further

比較級的常見用法

比較兩件事

我們用形容詞的比較級來比較兩件事。

Jess’s room is bigger than Josh’s room. 傑斯的房間比喬什的房間大。
My brother is more intelligent than me. 我哥哥比我聰明。

less…than 的用法

當我們在比較兩件事時，也可以用 less + 形容詞 + than (less ≠ more)

Julia’s phone is less expensive than Mary’s phone. (= Mary’s phone is more expensive than Julia’s.) 茱莉亞的手機比瑪麗的手機便宜。 （瑪麗的手機比茱莉亞的貴）

than me 的用法

如果在 than 後面要加上人稱代名詞則要用受詞代名詞。

My sister is taller than me. 我姐姐比我高。
His sister is more intelligent than him. 他姐姐比他聰明。

much/a bit + more 的用法

在比較級 (more 或 -er) 前面可以用 much (= 很大的不同) 或 a bit (= 些微的不同)。

She’s a bit nicer than her sister. 她比她姐姐好一點。
Street vendors are much cheaper than mall vendors. 街頭小販比商場小販便宜得多。

常見錯誤!

more or -er  more 或 -er的用法 

可以用 more 或 -er，但是不能用more + -er。

My brother is taller than me. (不能說 My brother is more taller than me.)

more than (非 that)

在比較級形容詞後面要用 than 而非 that。

My brother is taller than me. (不能說 My brother is taller that me.)

than + 比較的第二個元素

我們用 than + 在比較的第二件事，若沒有提及到比較的第二個元素，則不能使用 than。

My brother is taller than me.
I am tall, but my brother is taller. (不能說 my brother is taller than. )
