很多形容詞都是由動詞字尾加 -ing-ed 組成的。它們被稱為分詞形容詞,它們採用動詞的現在分詞 ( -ing ) 和過去分詞 (-ed) 的形式。

單字結尾是 -ed 的形容詞

-ed 形容詞用來描述我們的感受。請看以下範例:

They’re tired.  他們累了。
I’m bored. Let’s play basketball. 我很無聊。 讓我們打籃球吧。
I was surprised to see Tom. 見到湯姆我很驚訝。

單字結尾是 -ing 的形容詞

-ing 形容詞用來談論產生這些感覺的事物。如以下範例:

Climbing is very tiring. 爬山很累。
This show is very boring. Let’s go home. 這個節目很無聊。 我們回家吧。
