所有格 + ‘s

我們用所有格+ ‘s 來表示某物屬於某一個人的(或一隻動物的)，或用來說明人與人之間的關係。

This is Tom‘s father. 这是湯姆的父亲。（表示人與人直接的關係，不能說 the father of Tom)
Tom and Lynn‘s car is green. 汤姆和林恩的车是綠色的。
His cat‘s ears are yellow. 他的猫的耳朵是黃色的。

我們也使用所有格’s來替代商店和房屋。

I am at John‘s. (= at John’s house) 我在约翰家。
I need to go to the chemist‘s. (= the chemist’s shop) 我需要去药房。

所有格 ‘s – 各種表現形式

單數名詞 + ‘s：

• Anna’s clothes
• Chris’s wife
• the student’s books,

結尾是-s的複數名詞要加 ‘（撇號）：

• The students’ books
• the boys’ toys
•  the teachers’ lounge

不規則的複數名詞 (結尾不是-s)，+ ‘s：

• The children’s toys
•  men’s clothes

當一件東西屬於兩個或兩個以上的人時，只在最後一個名詞後加‘ s ：

• Paul and Katherine’s house
•  Anna and George’s car

當我們有兩個或更多人時，而且每個人都各自有一件物品時，我們在每個人之後添加‘ s ：

• Anna’s and George’s cars (Anna’s car and George’s car)
• Sally’s and Tim’s computers (Sally’s computer and Tim’s computer).

所有格 – 使用 of

當我們談論”某事物的”（而不是人或動物）時，我們使用 of 。

• the end of the street 街道的尽头(不能說 the street’s end)
• a picture of the eclipse 日食的照片(不能說 the eclipse’s picture)
• the man of the match 比赛的人(不能說 the match’s man)

複合名詞

對於經常合在一起使用的名詞字組，我們常直接兩個名詞放在一起使用，不加帶 of 也不加‘s

• a school bus
• the city center
• the car key

whose (誰的)的用法

我們何時使用 whose?

我們使用疑問詞 whose 來詢問 ”誰的/哪一個人的”?。有兩種形式：

whose + 名詞

Whose car is this?
Whose books are those? 

whose 不加名詞

Whose is this car?
Whose are those books? 

用所有格‘s回答whose的問題時，我們可以使用‘s + 名詞或不帶名詞的 ‘s 。

Whose is this car?

It’s John‘s car
It’s John‘s. 

whose vs who’s  誰的 vs 是誰(是何許人也)?

• Whose = who 的所有格
• Who’s = who is   是誰(是何許人也)?

Whose car is this? 这是谁的车？(不能說 Who’s car is this)
Who’s that man in the lobby? 大厅里的那个人是谁？(不能說 Whose that man in the lobby)
