had better 的用法 (‘d better 为常见句中缩写)

我们使用 had better 来给出强烈的建议或告诉某人（包括我们自己）最好该做什么了。

I’d better drink coffee. I’m getting sleepy. 我最好喝咖啡。我好困。
You’d better tell your feelings before you regret them.你最好在后悔之前说出你的感受。

had better 经常暗喻着如果不做某事就会发生负面的事情，而这通常听起来像是有威胁或警告的意味。

He’d better drive you home, or he’ll be in trouble. 他最好开车送你回家，否则他会有麻烦的。
You’d better pay me back the money you owe if you don’t want to get sued. 如果你不想被起诉，你最好把你欠的钱还给我。

had 是 have 的过去式，但 had better 是只用在说明未来近期的情况。

You‘d better call me soon. I’ll be worried. 你最好马上给我打电话。我会担心的。

在 had better 之后我们需要使用不定词不加to (即动词原形) 。

I‘d better take a look. 我最好看看。 (不能说 I’d better to take)

had better not (‘d better not) 是 had better 的否定形式。

You‘d better not say a word about this. 你最好对此只字不提。
I‘d better not forget. 我最好不要忘记。

在英语口语中我们通常使用缩写形式 ‘d better。在非正式演讲中，人们有时只会说 better (省略 had )。

had better vs should

我们经常用 should 来给建议，来表示建议某事是一件好事。我们 had better 表示紧急的建议或警告，如果你不遵守的话结果会是不好的。

You should try the chocolate. It’s delicious. 你应该尝尝巧克力。它很好吃。
He’d better give her a present, or he’ll regret it. 他最好给她一件礼物，否则他会后悔的。

It’s time 的用法（该是…的时候了）

我们可以用 it’s time + to +不定式或者 it’s time for someone + to +不定式表示某人现在或将来应该做某事。

It’s time for you to go to school. 你该去上学了。
It’s time to make a decision. 是时候做出决定了。

我们也可以用 it’s (about) time + 主语 +过去一般时，用来说某人现在或将来应该做某事。

It’s time you went to school. 你该去学校了。
I really think it’s high time you made a decision. We can’t go on like this any longer. 我真的认为你该做决定了。我们不能再这样下去了。

注意，我们用动词过去式的形式，但我们要说明的是未来该做的事。我们经常使用这种形式来抱怨或批评。

It’s time you paid me what you owe me. 你该把欠我的钱还给我了。
It’s about time you started looking for a job. 你该开始找工作了。
