雖然 let和 make 這兩個字都可以翻譯為中文的“讓”,它們在英語中卻有著不同的含義和用法。


let 通常用來表示允許或給予許可的意思。當某人 let 另一個人做某事時,意味著他們給予了做那件事的自由或許可。

Let him come in. 讓(允許)他進來。
My parents let me stay out late on weekends. 我父母允許我在週末晚出去。
My Mom won’t let me watch TV. 我媽媽不允許我看電視。


相比之下,make 用來表示強制或迫使某人做某事。當某人 make 別人做某事時,通常涉及某種壓力或權威,使被動者沒有太多選擇的餘地。

He made me do it. 他讓我這樣做的。
The teacher made us stay after class as a punishment.老師作為懲罰讓我們課後留下。
The law makes it mandatory to wear a seatbelt.法律強制要求系安全帶。
